New high-yield paddy variety introduced

The Bombuwela Paddy Research Station has introduced a new high-yield paddy variety called ‘BW 11-3403’. The grains of this variety of rice is moderately long and red in colour and 150 bushels of this paddy could be easily reaped in an acre.

It was also reported that 200 bushels of paddy have already been reaped in a one-acre cultivation in Murunkan, Jaffna. This new paddy variety is able to withstand pests, diseases, and soil contamination to a better extent as well. It was said that harvests could be reaped within three months as well. The Bombuwela Paddy Research Station has taken steps to introduce this new paddy variety to all local farmers, shortly, Deputy Paddy Research Station Director Deepika Weerasinghe said.
