Rajitha appointed as PSC member

In place of Dr.Kavinda Jayawardena who resigned:

Health and Indigenous Medicine Minister Dr. Rajitha Senaratne was appointed as a member of the Parliamentary Select Committee (PSC) which was appointed to probe the Easter Sunday suicide attacks, Speaker Karu Jayasuriya informed Parliament yesterday.

He was appointed in the place of United National Party (UNP) MP Dr.Kavinda Jayawardena that fell vacant with the resignation from the same Parliament Select Committee yesterday.

Speaker Jayasuriya also informed that Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa would represent the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) in the PSC.

Kavinda Jayawardena informed Speaker Karu Jayasuriya in writing that he might not be able to perform his PSC duties as he has to perform fultime duties and commitments to the people in his electorate, who were affected by the terrorist attack.

Chief Opposition Whip Mahinda Amaraweera said that the United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) has no intention in taking part in the PSC as its members see the government trying to escape from the blame of the terror attacks through the committee.
