University student released on bail

A university student, who was arrested over posting false news on Facebook stating President Maithripala Sirisena’s flight en route to China had crashed, was released on bail by Colombo Chief Magistrate Lanka Jayarathne.
 
The student was released on a surety of Rs.100, 000. The suspect student was identified as Sanka Pramod Ariyawansa resident of Piliyandala and a student of the Sri Jayawardenapura University in Kotte.
 
According to the B-report filed by Criminal Investigations Department, the complaint had lodged by the new media unit of the president’s secretariat.
 
The Magistrate fixed further inquiries for June 25.
