Wellampitiya Police OIC Chief Inspector G.S. Hewawitharana has been transferred to the Galle Police division from May 22.
This is in connection with the investigations conducted into the granting of bail to nine suspects arrested during a raid conducted on the copper factory at Wellampitiya owned by the Ibrahim family connected to the Easter Sunday Muslim fundamentalist terrorist bomb explosions.
CI Hewawitharana’s transfer has been approved by the National Police Commission on the recommendation of acting IGP C.D. Wickremaratne. A permanent OIC has not been appointed to the Wellampitiya Police station to fill the vacancy created by this transfer.
Several other officers at the Wellampitiya Police station are due to receive transfer orders soon.
