Sri Lanka’s preparations for the upcoming cricket World Cup 2019 ended with an eight-day training session at the Merchant Taylors’ School in Middlesex which was described by chief selector and manager of the team Ashantha de Mel as “a good week of practice” leading upto the business end of things when they confront Scotland in the first of two ODIs at Edinburgh today (Saturday).
“Everything is going well, the team is bonding well and they are in good spirits. We trained at the Merchant Taylor School since the 8th on specific skills training, fielding and also gym work,” said De Mel.
“We played a few match scenarios and did a bit of coaching for the young kids. The players are all fit and ready and are looking forward to doing well in the matches against Scotland and then in the World Cup,” he said.
The Lankan cricketers got into Scotland on Thursday and will decide on their playing eleven for Saturday’s game after practices scheduled for Friday.
Sri Lanka’s second ODI against Scotland is on Tuesday (May 21).
From May 23 onwards Sri Lanka will officially become part of the World Cup tournament that is to be held in England and Wales from June 30 to July 14.
Prior to their opening match of the World Cup against New Zealand at Cardiff on June 1, Sri Lanka will play two more practice games against South Africa on May 24 at Cardiff and against Australia on May 27 at Southampton.
