"Sambudu Vandana" will be held on Sunday

“Sambudu Vandana” Vesak Day Celebration will be held at Temple Trees on May 19 from 5.00 p.m. onwards.

A Bodhi Pooja Pinkama will be held before the Bodhi Tree at Temple Trees premises with the blessings of hundred Bhikkus under the headship of Chief Prelates of the three sectors.

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe forwards invitation to all devotees to participate in the Pinkama event which will be held coinciding with the commemoration of the war heroes who sacrificed their lives for the country at the Tenth anniversary of Ranaviru Day and in paying blessings to the victims of Easter Sunday terror attack.

This Pinkama is also aimed at passing merits on thousands of valiant soldiers who laid their lives for the nation during the 30-year battle against terrorism and those who were killed in the Easter Sunday attacks

United National Bhikshu Peramuna Chairman Ven.Ambanwala Gnanaloka Thera requested devotees to celebrate Vesak by carrying out both Amisa (Homage by offerings of material things) and Prathipaththi (Homage through practice) as usual.

The Thera made these observations at a press briefing at Temple Trees yesterday morning.

Speaking at the press briefing, Attorney-at-Law Sudarshana Gunawardena said that Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe believes that the Dhamma will defeat the evil evocated by the recent terror attack that shocked the nation.

“We were able to face this appalling situation in a peaceful and patient manner under the guidance of the Mahanayake Theras and the Archbishop of Colombo His Eminence Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith.

People are still skeptical about celebrating Vesak Day due to the fear instigated by the terror attacks. However, we shall not break with the ancient tradition of Vesak Day celebrations in fear of terror attacks. Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has assured full security for all Vesak celebrations,” Gunawardena said.

Gunawardena requested the devotees to be present at Temple Trees by 4.00 p.m. on May 19, considering the tight security measures.
