Zahran’s close associates arrested

Two suspects who had close links with the leader of National Thowheed Jamaath (NTJ) Zahran Hashim were arrested by the Special Task Force at Paththewa in Horowpathana last evening.

The arrestees were identified as  Noor Mohammadu Abdul Rasool, a 56-year-old principal of a school at Weerasole and Kana Mohamed Mijam, is a 47-year-old teacher of a school in Ataweerawewa.

The suspects are to be produced in the courts today.

 


Two close associates of National Thawheed Jamaath (NTJ) leader Zahran Hashim who were arrested by the Horowpothana Police were ordered to be detained for 72 hours and questioned by the Kebithigollewa Magistrate’s Court yesterday.

These two suspects jointly arrested by the Horowpathana Police and the Police Special Task Force (STF) at Paththewa area are believed to have close links with NTJ leader Zahran Hashim, STF Commandant, Senior DIG M.R. Latiff said.

“The arrested men, Noor Mohammadu Abdul Rasool (56) and Kana Mohamed Mijam (47) have been identified as a Principal and an Acting Principal of two Muslim schools in the area,” he said.

“Zahran Hashim had established NTJ mosques in the area and entrusted them with the suspects,” the STF Commandant further said.
