Army seeks assistance to identify soldier who assisted mob

The army has sought public assistance to identify the individual gesturing at mobs to attack a mosque in Thunmodara for disciplinary action.

Responding to allegations which surfaced based on a video that was circulated on social media depicting a soldier willingly assisting violent mobs, Army Media Director Brigadier Sumith Atapattu in a statement noted that attention has been drawn to a clip where an individual dressed in uniform similar to the army is seen watching a mob attacking a nearby mosque.

CCTV footage released from a mosque in Thunmodara shows an armed army person gesturing at mobs to approach the mosque. He is seen leaving the scene after that.

“The army on watching this particular video has launched a special inquiry to identify the person suspected to be a soldier.Public help is sought to trace this person for necessary action.” If the inquiry confirms the person in question to be from the army, disciplinary will be taken against him.The public are advised to inform the Corps of Military Police on 0112514280.
