Jaffna Student’s Union President, Secretary charged

Jaffna University students held a demonstration opposite the University premises yesterday (May 15) demanding the release of three of their colleagues including the Student's Union President and Secretary arrested by security forces.

They said it was unfair to charge them in courts under the Anti-terrorism Act when they were not LTTE or ISIS members.

However security sources refuted this allegation and said the three of them had been arrested for attempting to revive the banned LTTE organisation by keeping compact discs, films and other material helpful to revive the LTTE.

As such they would be charged in court under the Prevention of Terrorism Act.
