Former netball captains to meet Yamuna today

Former Sri Lanka Netball Captains will meet interim committee chairman Yamuna Perera today to discuss future plans of the Netball Federation of Sri Lanka.

Hycinth Wijesinghe, S.K.D.Prasadi, Vajira Pushpakumari, Deepthi Alwis and Dayamanthi Jayathilaka who captained Sri Lanka along with Yamuna Sadamali will represent the Netball Coaches Association.

The Minister of Sports Harin Fernando appointed an Interim Committee of three members to run the Netball Federation last month. The NFSL office bearers term of office should have ended in 2018 and the committee headed by Trixie Nanayakkara clung on to power for several months after their term expired.

The 18 members of the NFSL lodged a written protest with the authorities questioning the legality of the office-bearers headed by Nanayakkara remaining in office beyond their term limit of one year.

The Committee will be headed by an employee from the Foreign Employment Bureau, Yamuna Perera while the other two members appointed to the Committee are Asha Edirisinghe and Ranjith Wimalasuriya.

An official said that they are planning to discuss the future of major tournaments like the Netball World Cup and Junior Asian Championship.
