CDS requests public’s trust in security forces

Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne requested the public to trust the security forces and engage in their day-to-day activities without fear.

Issuing a statement to the media, he said that the tri-forces, police, and the Special Task Force (STF), together with intelligence units, were carrying out operations to eliminate terrorism until peace was fully restored.

“An Overall Operational Commander has also been appointed for this task”, he said.

Referring to the recent tense situations that occurred in several areas, subsequent to the Easter Sunday attacks, the CDS requested the public not to contribute to such situations as they could disrupt the scheduled security plans throughout the country.

“Even a small incident can disrupt security programmes and cause damage to the peace among the public,” he added.

He also said the public should not worry about the number of security personnel that have been deployed throughout the country as another Civil Security Force group had been deployed to protect the country.

“The public should not rely on social media as the Defence Ministry is issuing reliable information daily to the public,” he added.
