Nine held for illegal fishing

Navy apprehended nine persons yesterday who engaged in illegal fishing in the seas off Polmalkuda.

Accordingly, a group of naval personnel attached to the Eastern Naval Command, during a patrol carried out in the seas off Polmalkuda, apprehended these 09 persons who had used unauthorized nets for fishing activities. Along with the suspects, 02 dinghies, 02 outboard motors, 02 unauthorized fishing nets and 400kg of illegally caught fish were also taken into naval custody. The suspects have been identified as residents of Pulmodai area, from 18 to 51 years of age.

The suspects along with the fishing gear and the stock of fish were handed over to the Fisheries Inspector of Kuchchaweli-South for onward action
