“Golden Roads that connect hearts” programme inaugurated

Contributing to economic growth and development

Participating in the inauguration ceremony of the “Golden Roads that connect hearts” Road Development programme in Ratnapura on Sunday, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe said both cities and villages will be developed through an improved road network.

The Prime Minister said a better road network will play a critical role in connecting people to facilities and services and have a significant impact in reducing poverty.

While new Expressways and the rehabilitation of national roads will contribute to the country’s economic growth and development, improving feeder roads that connect rural areas to better developed urban areas will improve the living standards of people in remote areas, he added.

The inauguration ceremony of the Ran Mawatha road development programme was held yesterday in Ratnapura under the patronage of the Prime Minister. The project is implemented under the Ministry of Highways, Road Development and Petroleum Resources which comes under Minister Kabir Hashim. Projects to develop roads and bridges will be launched covering all areas of the country under the programme.

The Premier yesterday vested the first two projects under the new programme, the new two-lane bridge in Demuwawena, Ratnapura and Sri Palabaddala Road in Ratnapura with the public.
