Anuka excels for Sri Sumangala

Left arm leg spinner, right hand bat and third year coloursman Anuka Jayasinghe of Sri Sumangala College, Panadura had an excellent season in the just concluded first xi cricket tournament and his performances paved the way for Sumangalian success. Anuka is having another year to represent his Alma Mater.

Playing in 13 matches in this season he claimed 81 wickets with one 10 wicket haul and six 5 wicket hauls. He commenced his cricket career from under 13 age group and went on to represent his school for 5 years. Then he played for the under 15 and 17 teams and at the age of 15 he was selected for the first XI team. Playing in 8 matches he captured 55 scalps and took a match bag of 14 for 94 to earned the Best Bowlers Award at the Big Match against their arch rivals Moratu Vidyalaya and in 2017/18 cricket season playing in 13 games he captured 73 wickets and won the Best Bowlers Award for the second time in the Big Match too. This year playing in 13 matches he bagged 81 wickets and carried away the Best Bowlers Award at the Big Match for the third successive year and perhaps it may be a record in the Big Match series. In the 2017/18 he won the Best Bowlers Award in the limited over game too.

In 2016/17 cricket season he took 15 for 68 against St. Mary’s College, Chilaw and in the following year he took 12 for 70 versus Siri Piyarathana Vidyalaya, Padukka and 10 for 66 against Taxila Central, Horana in this season. Playing in three seasons in 34 matches he has captured 209 wickets at an average of six scalps per match. This too could be a record for his Alma Mater. The present Principal Dimuthu Deranagoda is extending his fullest support to keep this noble game alive at Sri Sumangala College.
