Military Police, Ranaviru Apparel probe Army uniforms detection

The Military Police (MP) and Ranaviru Apparel have initiated a joint comprehensive investigation over the stock of Army uniforms detected from a household at Thalapitiya in the Galle Police Division.

In a special search operation carried out on May 5 and 6 by the Police, a large quantity of Army uniforms including Army t-shirts, arms carry belts and Army caps etc. were seized. They were packed in 10 gunny bags and hidden in a house at Thalapitiya.

The official emblem of the Army symbol and Ranaviru Apparel symbol had been imprinted on the seized Army uniforms.

The investigators have found that the Army uniforms detected were products of Ranaviru Apparel at Biyagama. Following the media reports about the seizure of the Army uniforms, Military Police (MP) and Ranaviru Apparel started investigations into the incident.

The investigators are exploring the suspect’s sources of procurement of Ranaviru Apparel products, whether the suspects had illegally supplied the Army uniforms to another party, the purpose of keeping a large collection of Army uniforms and about the suspect’s potential links with any unlawful organization.

Galle Division DIG Nuwan Wedasingha, SP Anurudhdha Bandara Hakmanage and ASP Sathis Gamage are directing a group of Police investigators lead by Galle Division Traffic Police SI Anuja Lankadeva to carry out further investigations.
