YMCA condemns Easter Sunday attacks

The YMCA in a letter to Archbishop of Colombo, Malcom Cardinal Ranjith has condemned the Brutal attack in Sri Lanka on Easter Sunday and says they are ready to help collaborate with the Catholic Church and peoples to help the victims and to re-build Peace and Harmony in Sri Lanka.

YMCA states that as one of the oldest and largest youth-focused ecumenical movement in the world we strongly condemn the brutal terrorist attack in Sri Lanka on Easter Sunday resulting in unprecedented number of fatalities in one day (Death 259 and 400 injured). The National Council of the YMCAs of Sri Lanka conveys our heartfelt condolences to those who lost their loved ones.

YMCA is working with multi religious corporate and diverse community around the world. The World Alliance of YMCAs has passed a resolution at the last World Council meeting held in July 2018 in Thailand creating Safe Space “hundred percentage inclusion and zero percentage discrimination” at all levels for all people. The Sri Lanka YMCA also a part of this decision making.

As YMCA we believe that, “Darkness always gathers around the light” but we should not let the light go out. The Sri Lanka YMCA with the support and encouragement of Global YMCA family stand ready to collaborate with the Catholic Church and all peoples of Sri Lanka to help the victims and to re-build Peace and Harmony in Sri Lanka.

Therefore, I humbly request spiritual and temporal guidance from Your Eminence in bringing Peace and Harmony in Sri Lanka.
