Police probe on granting of bail to nine copper factory workers

An inquiry will be conducted into the release of the nine suspects who were arrested at the Wellampitiya copper factory belonging suicide bomber Inshaf Ahmed.

Police Media Spokesperson SP Ruwan Gunasekara said the Police Headquarters Investigation Unit will conduct an investigation into the release of these nine suspects, who were granted bail.

Investigations are being conducted to ascertain if they were released on bail due to a lapse on the part of the Wellampitiya Police.

On April (22), nine factory workers were arrested by the Wellampitiya Police and produced before the Colombo Magistrate. The suspects were remanded till Monday (6) and were later released on bail.

Several complaints received regarding the violence in Negombo, Kochchikade are been investigated. The investigations are conducted under the supervision of a Senior Superintendent of Police, with several Police teams allocated to look into the complaints received in the area where the violence occurred.

Religious leaders have requested the Police to look into the complaints and to keep the situation under control without any further violence, while investigations are being carried out.
