Swords, knives, gun found dumped in Maligawatte well

Security Forces inspected an abandoned house in Salambakulam during a search operation along the Mannar road in Vavuniya and found 15 identity cards belonging to some members of the Muslim community, wrapped in a plastic bag and placed on a plate.

Poovarsankulam Police said they included NICs, driving licences and office identity cards of several Muslims.

Investigations are being conducted to locate the owners with the help of the addresses given in the cards.

Meanwhile, Beruwala Police said 20 swords and knives have been voluntarily surrendered to the police by the owners in response to the notice given to the public to surrender such arms.

In another development, police found 46 swords, a small gun which was loaded, and several other equipment in a fertiliser bag dumped in a well in close proximity to a mosque near the Khettarama grounds in Maligawatte.

Police said several daggers and knives and a packet of ‘ice’ (crystal meth) was also found in the bag.

Divers were deployed to check if there were any other items dumped in the well.
