Case against CTJ Secretary referred to AG

 

 

 

A case filed against Ceylon Thawheed Jamaath (CTJ) Secretary Abdul Razik for allegedly making derogatory remarks against Bodu Bala Sena (BBS) General Secretary Ven. Galagoda Atte Gnanasara Thera and hurting the sentiments of the Sinhala-Buddhist community, has been referred to the Attorney General for his advice.

When the case came up before Colombo Additional Magistrate Kanchana Neranjana de Silva, the Colombo Crimes Division (CCD) informed Court that they were yet to receive the Attorney General’s advice regarding the incident. Accordingly, further magisterial inquiry was fixed for July 25.

Ceylon Thawheed Jamaath Secretary Abdul Razik was arrested by the Maligawatta Police in November 2016 for allegedly making defamatory remarks against Ven.Gnanasara Thera and Buddhism after uploading the videos on social media. The prosecution maintained that the alleged derogatory remarks made by the Ceylon Thawheed Jamaath (CTJ) affected the country’s religious harmony.

Apart from this case, six members of the CTJ are being prosecuted at the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court for making derogatory remarks on the Buddha and hurting the sentiments of the Sinhala-Buddhist community in the country.
