‘Radicalism has no place in Islam’

The entire Sri Lankan Muslim community condemns the radicalism which perpetrates violence and which is not mentioned anywhere in Islam, City Planning, Water Supply and Higher Education Minister Rauf Hakeem said.

The entire Muslim community is prepared to wipe out this radicalism by providing all support and information to the Armed Forces and Police, he said.

The Minister was speaking at a special coordinating committee meeting at the Gampola Udapalatha Divisional Secretariat on Monday.

Minister Hakeem said it has been noted that certain sections of the media in an effort to compete with others were publishing distorted news relating to search operations and discoveries made by the Security Forces.

They should only publish the truth after verifying the information to ensure that people were not unnecessarily roused.

The recent actions taken by the Security Forces and Police to eliminate this threat was most commendable, he said. The meeting was held to discuss arrangements for ensuring security at schools, places of religious worship, and state and private institutions, as well as public places in Gampola.
