Navy Sampath, six others re-remanded

Colombo Fort Magistrate Ranga Dissanayake yesterday ordered the extension of remand of former Navy Lieutenant Commander Chandana Prasad Hettiarachchi alias ‘Navy Sampath’ and six others, who were arrested over the abduction and disappearance of 11 youths between 2008 and 2009, till May 21.

The suspects were identified as Navy Lieutenant Commander Nilantha Sampath Munasinghe, Officer Anton Fernando and Chief Petty Officer Sampath Janaka Kumara, former Lieutenant Commander Chandana Prasad Hettiarachchi, alias ‘Navy Sampath’, Imbulana Liyanage Chaminda Kumara, alias ‘Annachi’ and Dilantha Senaratne.

Attorney-at-law Achala Seneviratne appearing on behalf of the aggrieved party informed the court that suspects had threatened her with death. Counsel Seneviratne also said she had lodged a complaint with the CID.

The Magistrate fixed further inquiries for May 21.
