Naval personnel arrested 08 persons for engaging in illegal fishing in Back Bay, Trincomalee yesterday.
A group of naval personnel onboard a craft attached to the Eastern Naval Command arrested 08 persons for engaging in fishing practices in the restricted fishing area of Back Bay using unauthorized fishing nets.
The arrested persons are residents of Nilaweli area in Trincomalee, aged from 18 to 43.
The Navy also seized a dinghy, an outboard motor and an unauthorized fishing net during the arrest.
The suspects along with the items and other fishing gear were handed over to the Assistant Director of Fisheries in Trincomalee, through the Sri Lanka Coast Guard for onward investigation.
