ACJU President urges terrorists to surrender

All-Ceylon Jammiyathul Ulama (ACJU) President Mufti M.I.M. Rizwe yesterday urged the remaining terrorists to surrender to the security forces.

Rizwe said, “Since day one, we have supported the government to stop this menace; we stand stronger to end this. We request those involved in terrorist activities to surrender to the security forces.”

“We have spoken to Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe on matters related to helping these misguided persons with rehabilitation. Their names were given to the authorities and steps will be taken to rehabilitate them,” he added.

“On Sunday, clashes between two communities erupted in the Negombo area. The clashes were not caused by the people from the area, but a group from outside who wanted to create chaos and disharmony between communities. Colombo Archbishop Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith and I spoke to the people and advised them about what was happening,” Rizwe said.

When the clashes erupted, troops were deployed to the scene as crowds began to gather on the Thakkiya Road in Poruthota, where curfew was later imposed. Two suspects have been arrested and several others connected to the incident have been identified by police.
