Senior Station in celebration mood

The Senior Station celebrated its annual Avurudu festivities at the Ladies’ College Vocational Training Institute recently. The members of the group took part in various activities related to the New Year season.

Senior Station organizers conducted activities which engaged members to get fit and active while embracing the festivities and traditions. From games to Baila, to the catwalk, singing and dancing. Members were in their element dress for the occasion and giving the audience a run of fashion and beauty.

Trustee Shenaz Nathani said, “We want to engage the senior citizens of Colombo and make them feel that they aren’t forgotten and age is just number. Starting with five members today we have around 30 and the number is increasing every day. The organization strives to work with many elders’ home, giving the love and care of a family.”

The Senior Station Colombo will be celebrating Avurudu the whole month, with many activities. The organizers have planned a lot of events in the days to come, in Colombo and many parts of the country.

The Senior Station

The Senior Station is run by seven Trustees who find great fulfilment from their interactions with members, Asamptha Perera, Nisreen Jafferjee, Shenaz Nathani, Farida Lukmanjee, NadiraAdamally and Banin Caderbhoy.

“We started The Senior Station because we saw a need for senior citizens to stay engaged and not feel that they were forgotten or marginalized. Each week at The Senior Station we remind our members that age is just number, and each day is worth looking forward to because there are many who care for them,” Trustee Shenaz Nathani said.

The Senior Station was established over a year ago as a tribute to our senior citizens. Members meet once a week to participate in programs that are specially crafted to engage them in physical and mental exercises and interactive activities. The Senior Station program is conducted on Tuesday mornings Ladies’ College Vocational Training Center.
