The Mahanayake Thera’s of the Malwatte and Asgiriya Chapters, yesterday urged the Government to differ in the delaying the opening of schools by another week or so until the country’s security is improved.

The Mahanayake of the Malwatte Chapter Most Ven. Thibbotuwawe Sri Sumangala Mahanayake Thera said,” the President, the Prime Minister, the Cabinet of Ministers and the members of the Security Council should issue a joint statement on the situation of the country’s national security after discussing it in depth among themselves.

“The government has demonstrated an uncertain climate of security stabilization by having one part of the schools opened and the other closed for students,” the Malwatte Mahanayake Thera said.

“The opening of schools would be appropriate once the feeling of uncertainties has been removed,”the Mahanayaka Thera said.

“All schools should open together,” the Malwatte Chief Prelate emphasised.

The Mahanayake Thera made these observations when members of the Sri Lanka Government School Teachers’ Association and Sinhale Api Organisation visited the Malwatu Maha Vihara Temple to receive his blessings.

Meanwhile, Mahanayake Thera of Asgiriya Chapter Most Ven. Warakagoda Sri Gnanarathana Thera addressing the media in Kandy said it was not feasible to open Schools as the security situation in the country was still uncertain.

The Mahanayake Thera pointed out that both parents and teachers too were against the decision to open Schools as the security situation in the country was not stable.
