Red light for Panadura UC shirkers

Councillors of the Panadura Urban Council (UNP) urged its Chairman Nandana Gunathilleke to take action against some employees of the Council who do not perform their daily duties properly inconveniencing taxpayers who come to the Council to get their work done.

Addressing the monthly meeting of the Council, presided over by Chairman Nandana Gunatilleka on May 2, the Councillors made these allegations.

Vice Chairman P. H. Wilman Kumudu Fernando, UNP Councillors Janaka Zoysa, and Anura Wijepala, JVP Councillors Chandana Hettiarchchi and W. Piyasena, SLFP Councillors Vijith Fernando and Rajiv Weeraman pointed out that a group of employees of the Health Department and the Council office do not follow the instructions of the Chairman or other officers.

UNP Councillor Anura Wijepala said many hotels and boutiques in the Panadura town are selling foods which are unsuitable for human consumption.

He requested the UC to introduce a code of conduct to shop owners and complained that Panadura health inspectors (PHIs) are neglecting their duties.

The Chairman, in response to him, said cases have already been filed at the Panadura Magistrate’s Court against the hoteliers in Panadura who sold unhygienic food.
