A 14-member delegation comprising Vice Chancellors and senior educationists from Sri Lankan universities is scheduled to visit Pakistan on an orientation tour from May 2 to 9, at the invitation of its Higher Education Commission.

The delegation paid a courtesy call on Pakistani High Commissioner Major General (R) Dr. Shahid Ahmad Hashmat at the High Commission yesterday.

During the meeting, the High Commissioner said Pakistan has a great deal to offer to international students, with a rich diversity in its culture, landscapes and people, as well as well-respected educational institutes.

He reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to contribute towards enhancing the prospects of Sri Lanka’s youth for better educational opportunities.

The High Commissioner expressed the hope that the visit will open new avenues of collaboration and more in-depth academic and research cooperation between the two countries.

The High Commissioner also spoke about the Pakistan-Sri Lanka Higher Education Cooperation Programme in which Pakistan is offering 1,000 scholarships to Sri Lankan students in the fields of Medicine, Engineering, Information Technology and Social and Management Sciences.
