‘Laws to make face covering ban permanent’

Referring to the recent restrictions on face coverings in public imposed under Emergency law, Minister Rajitha Senaratne said that government will soon take measures to draft laws to make the ban permanent.

Minister Senaratne said so, addressing a press brief at Temple Trees yesterday (30) evening.

Minister Senaratne made this observation in relation to a question by a journalist asking if the restriction on face coverings in public is temporary or not.

The Minister said the present restrictions were imposed invoking the Emergency law. However, the government is presently drafting the necessary laws to make the restriction a permanent one.
