Ensuring safety of State Universities and Higher Education Institutes

In the light of the current security situation in the country, to maximize the personal safety of students and staff and for protection of property,the University Grants Commission wishes to inform all students and parents of State Universities and Higher Education Institutes,the following facts prior to commencement, states a university Grants Commission release. The release adds:

1. Precise dates of commencement of each university will be given adequate publicity in the near future, once the complete security clearance is obtained.

2. When returning to university, students must fully cooperate with the security staff of the university by providing their Student Identity Card for verification, physical body check and checking of all bags, baggage and back packs or any other belongings.

3. It is the responsibility of all students to protect the identity card issued by the university to prevent the risk of misuse.

4. Students are required to have the student identity card in their possession, while in the university.

5. All vehicles including cycles, motorbikes, scooters and three wheelers entering the premises will undergo a complete security check before entering premises.

6. No students is allowed to enter or stay within the premises with a face cover.

7. Excluding the face cover, rest of the dress code including the head, ears and the neck shall be considered as a personal decision.

8. Only registered students and persons authorized by the vice chancellor are allowed into or stay in the hostels. Visitors of students or any other persons are strictly not allowed to visit hostels.

9. Bags/back-packs are strictly prohibited in lecture halls, examination halls, laboratories and in the library.

10. Students are strongly advised to minimize bringing bags/back-packs to canteens and carrying them when moving within university premises.

11. Students are informed that all vice Chancellors are already issued with necessary instructions. Therefore, students are advised to strictly abide the instructions of the Vice Chancellor to ensure safety in the light of the current security situation.
