Cabinet Sub-Committee to revive tourism industry

President Maithripala Sirisena yesterday said that a Cabinet Sub-Committee will be appointed to look into measures to be taken to revive the tourism industry at today’s Cabinet meeting.

The President also apprised the stakeholders of the tourism sector that he will discuss how the tourism sector should be assisted at the Cabinet meeting which is scheduled to be held today.

He said that a number of relief measures including the provision of concessionary financial assistance to those involved in the tourism sector would be brought under discussion at today’s Cabinet meeting.

Addressing the the tourism industry stakeholders at Presidential Secretariat yesterday, the President said the government is ready to provide security to any business place in the tourism sector.

“We are ready to provide any assistance or facility to rebuild this industry and even the members of the business community can make a request to me personally in this regard,” President Sirisena said.

“We as a government has a responsibility to rebuild the industry following the Easter Sunday attacks,” the President said.

He said that he will meet the business community at least once in a fortnight, until the situation returns to normal.

The President also appreciated the strength received from the tourism sector towards the national economy. He also expressed his regret to the business community who faced many issues following these unfortunate attacks. The President added that all should get together and strive to rebuild the country and promote peace and harmony.

“Terrorism can be defeated and we will definitely defeat it,” he said.

President Maithripala Sirisena said he has confidence in the Security Forces and the Police and raids are being conducted in all parts of the country with the objective of eradicating this menace. Sri Lanka will recover fast - Harry Jayawardena

Business magnate Harry Jayawardena yesterday said that Sri Lanka is the first country which is recovering fast while effectively facing this terrorist group.

Jayawardena said that the President and the Security Forces should receive credit for this.

He expressed confidence that this terror group will be wiped out from the country within the next few days and the country will return normalcy.

Jayawardena reminded with gratitude the way that the President acted in the face of the threat posed by the terrorists and the bold steps taken by him against this menace.
