Madhush accomplice may have vital information about firearms

Police sources revealed that Gayan Buddhima Perera, who was deported from Dubai to Sri Lanka by Dubai Police, may have vital information about firearms belonging to underworld kingpin Makandure Madhush.

Perera is one of the six persons deported from Dubai last Wednesday (17).

Police sources said a decision had been reached to detain the suspect for three months after it was revealed that he knew about the firearms that initially belonged to the LTTE.

The suspect, a resident of the Bogahapitiya in Ahungalla, is an Air-Force deserter. Perera, who is also a suspect in several murder cases, had gone to Dubai on a resident visa on October 1 last year. Before leaving for Dubai, he had been acting as the keeper of Madhush’s armoury.

Police said further interrogation of the suspect, may lead to large hauls of firearms being located in due course.

Meanwhile, Piyal Pushpakumara Rajapaksa, one of the two individuals deported from Dubai on April 18, was released by the CID yesterday as it was proved that there is no connection between him and Madhush. According to Police, he is a professional chef who had gone to Dubai on the invitation of the main chef of the hotel, where Madhush’s party was held.

However, the other person Mohomad Afridi (22) has been taken into Police custody by the Colombo Crime Division yesterday.
