Drought hits 548,905 persons 18 districts

About 548,905 persons in 18 districts lack drinking water due to the prevailing drought. Jaffna has been the most affected, with 33,500 persons of 10,000 families facing difficulties due to the issue.

Thirty-two thousand five hundred and seventy-one people in the Puttalam district and 6,868 people in the Kurunegala district are also facing hardships. The number of those affected in the Kalutara district stands at 244,065. Kurunegala Disaster Management Centre Media Spokesperson Pradeep Kodippili told the Daily News that all district secretaries of the affected areas have been provided with the necessary funds to meet their drinking water requirements.

He said that 300 water bowsers, as well as 10,000 water tanks, have been deployed for the purpose, Kodippili added.
