Mahiyanganaya - Dambagalla road dilapidated

The Mahiyanganaya - Pangaragammana - Dambagalla road has been dilapidated for a long time. The road is used by over 3,000 families living in the Mapakada Wewa Irrigation Development Zone in the Mahiyanganaya Divisional Secretariat Division.

The road, which is 12 kilometres long, is the easiest route for the public to use when travelling from Mahiyanganaya to Badulla. It is also the oldest road connecting the two towns.

The heads of four government schools, the chief incumbents of three temples, the imams of three mosques, and the leader of a social services organisation have repeatedly requested the authorities to address the issue. However, no action has been taken so far.

Member of the Pangaragammana Helping Hearts organisation, A.N.M. Rizwan, said that he had sent a number of letters regarding the issue as well. He said people were fed up with the authorities’ negligence.

He added that hundreds of heavy vehicles transporting sand excavated from the Mahaweli River also worsened the condition of the road on a daily basis.
