Over 100,000 benefit from Batticaloa projects

Over 100,000 persons in the Batticaloa District have benefitted from development activities launched under the Rata Venuven Ekata Sitimu (Stand together as one nation) programme on April 8. By the second day of the programme on April 9 nearly 386 development and service programmes had been completed at a cost of Rs 15.49 million bringing benefits to 96,738 persons, the Government Information Department said in a statement.

Projects were implemented in all 14 Divisional Secretariat divisions, the largest amount of spending involving Rs 4.3 million was made on the Manmunai North DS division.

Rs. 2.6 million was spent on the Korale Pattu South area which is an underdeveloped area. The Presidential Secretariat handled 76 programmes, the Eastern Provincial Council 37 and the Central Government handled 274 projects.

These development activities continued on April 10 too.
