Lanka Special Steel Limited (Lanka SSL), subsidiary of E B Creasy Group and a pioneer hot dipped galvanizing wire manufacturer recently concluded a 14-month research in collaboration with Department of Materials Science and Engineering of the University of Moratuwa (UoM).
The field study and laboratory tests proved the longevity of Lanka SSL hot dipped galvanized wire exceeds 25 years, taking into consideration the corrosion rates for different geographical locations in the country. This further confirms the company’s product quality and reliability which are in line with international standards. Lanka SSL is an ISO 9001: 2015 and SLS 139: 2003 certified manufacturer with an annual production of 12,500 metric tons of its GI wire products. Being the first choice of many reputed galvanized steel wire product manufacturers over the last two decades, Lanka SSL is the undisputed market leader catering to over 80 percent of domestic customers with its products also being exported to various freight-friendly countries.

Dr S U Adhikari on behalf of the research team at UoM stated ‘We’ve carried out a 14-month study of many GI wire samples, barbed wire and welded mesh samples in different geographical locations of Sri Lanka to study the corrosion rates against different environmental parameters such as industrial zone, wet and dry zones, coastal belt and inland.
Researchers have developed a corrosion model for the performance of GI wire products and with the experimental data in hand it’s scientifically proved that the service life of Lanka SSL’s hot dipped galvanized wire is more than 25 years.
The prime product of hot dipped galvanized wire of Lanka SSL is mainly used in the manufacturing of barbed wire fencing, PVC coated chain link fencing, welded mesh, coir mats, gabions, and cable armor products.
