Two pistols missing from police station

Two pistols have gone missing from the Agrapatana Police Station armoury and an investigation has been launched in this connection, Central Province Senior DIG S.M. Wickramasinghe said yesterday.

He said the disappearance of the two firearms was noted when he inspected the police station on April 3. In a separate incident in April 2016, a T56 weapon and five revolvers were found to have been stolen from the Laggala Police Station. Two days later, the weapons were found abandoned at the premises of a temple in Laggala and no suspects have been arrested in this connection so far.

In another incident a few years ago, several pistols were found to have gone missing from the Panadura Police Station armoury. Two of these pistols were recovered from a criminal gang arrested in connection with a robbery, sometime later. It was revealed that a policeman had stolen the two weapons and sold them to the criminal gang. The constable concerned was also arrested subsequently.
