Kollupiya Police arrest three Chinese

Kollupitiya Police yesterday arrested three Chinese nationals who were engaged in the illegal trade of endangered marine species, liquor, and cigarettes.

The suspects were taken into custody in two separate raids.

The protected marine species included seahorses and sea cucumber.

Police seized 380 bottles of liquor, 6,200 cigarettes, two sea horses and 6,130 sea cucumbers.

The liquor, cigarettes and the sea horses were found in a shop in Kollupitiya owned by a Chinese couple.

Later, the police had raided an apartment owned by a Chinese woman and had found the stock of sea cucumber.

Kollupitiya Police had also arrested a Chinese woman who had come to buy sea cucumber at the second location, as she did not have a valid visa for Sri Lanka.

The suspects are to be produced in court, police said.
