NHSL asked to continue night surgeries

Surgeries to insert stents for heart patients (catheterisation) are performed both during the day and at night at the National Hospital of Sri Lanka (NHSL), a Health Ministry spokesman said.

In January, 591 heart surgeries were performed during the day and 224 at night, for a total of 815 such surgeries at the NHSL. In February, 549 day surgeries and 230 night surgeries were performed here, a total of 779. In March, 545 day surgeries and 186 night surgeries were performed, a total of 731.

Minister Senaratne made a request to the NHSL to continue night surgeries in order to offer an efficient service to heart patients waiting for such surgery.

Meanwhile, a five-member committee headed by Health Services Director General Dr. Anil Jasinghe has been appointed by the Health Minister to buy drugs and stents required for such surgery, at a recent meeting at the Health Ministry.
