Uma Oya project ready by year end

President Maithripala Sirisena expressed his pleasure for being able to complete most of the work of the Moragahakanda, Kaluganga projects.The work on the Uma Oya project is 95% complete and by the end of the year it will be over.

Responding to allegations that there is much corruption in the allocation and distribution of lands in the Mahaweli sector, he said when allocating lands for people in this country, it is not possible to do it based on political favouration. “We gazetted the land availability and called for applications. The main criteria for eligibility is that they have no lands, marriage, number of children and they should be citizens of this country. Other than that there is no other mechanism and MP or ministers cannot make any lists. Even in Polonnaruwa, we have not given any lands based on lists by MPs.”
