Mahapola monies to be sent to students’ accounts

Measures have been taken to transfer Mahapola Scholarship money directly to students’ accounts, Mahapola Fund Director General Parakrama Bandara said.

This move has been taken as a measure to minimise the delay in receiving Mahapola bursaries. A circular in this regard has already been issued.

Accordingly, the Mahapola bursaries for May will be sent directly to the bank accounts of scholarship holders by the Mahapola Fund.

This step has been taken to distribute the Mahapola bursary without delay. Under this new method, the scholars will receive their April bursary by May 15, Bandara said.

The Mahapola bursaries were paid through the University Grant Commission (UGC) so far. However a significant delay in receiving money had been reported in the past, as it was a lengthy process.
