Clean-up of Galle Fort starts today

The Gaalu Urumaya Foundation will implement a programme, from today, April 1, to make Galle Fort a waste-free environment.

The project will be launched in collaboration with the Environmental Police.

According to project member Tharanga Liyanaarachchi, the law will apply strictly to persons who pollute the environment by haphazard disposal of waste.

“Workers are appointed to collect waste and garbage bins have been placed in the Fort premises,” he said.

“Galle Fort is a world heritage site and an attractive tourist destination. This programme will ensure its cleanliness.” The Gaalu Urumaya Foundation requests local and foreign tourists to dispose garbage properly, he said.
