Death of Srima Dissanayake

Former Presidential Candidate and the spouse of late UNP Minister and Opposition Leader Gamini Dissanayake, Vajira Srimathi Dissanayake known as Srima Dissanayake passed away at a private hospital in Colombo last evening. She was 77.

Mrs. Dissanayake, a lawyer by profession was a member of the Central Provincial Council.

She became the UNP candidate of the 1994 Presidential Election subsequent to the assassination of her husband Gamini Dissanayake, who was the Presidential Candidate. Dissanayake was assassinated 16 days ahead of the Presidential Election by the LTTE.

Mrs. Dissanayake was a mother of two sons, Minister Navin Dissanayake and MP Mayantha Dissanayake and daughter, Varuni Dissanayake.
