Live wire kills farmer

A farmer was killed instantly when he came in contact with a live wire set up to deter wild elephants, in Polpithigama, Kurunegala, on March 23 night.

The deceased has been identified as R.D. Ukkuwa (29), a father of two.

A neighbour had illegally set up the live wire around his garden to protect his banana and vegetable cultivations from wild elephants which came at night to eat the crops.

The neighbour was arrested by police. A police team led by Polpithigama OIC, IP K.M. Herath, is investigating further.
