Bandula objects to EPF re-entering Stock Market

UPFA MP Bandula Gunawardena yesterday in Parliament objected to investing the Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF) in the Colombo Stock Market.

The MP, observing that about 17 million workers contribute to the EPF, said that it must not be invested in the Colombo Stock Exchange at a time the stocks keep falling.

“Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe told Parliament last week that the EPF will re-enter the Stock Market soon. However, we believe that this should not be done. The profit earned by the EPF from investing in the stock market dropped in 2017 compared to 2016,” he said.
