Education ministry to name eight schools as National Schools

The Education Ministry is going to name eight more schools as National Schools aiming provide more room for secondary education.

Under this move two schools in Trincomalee, one school in Batticaloa, three schools in Ampara and two schools in Jaffna will be named as National Schools.   

There are two types of schools in the country as National Schools and Provincial Schools. National Schools are managed by the Education Ministry while Provincial Schools are managed by respective Provincial Council. At present there are 10,162 Provincial Schools and 353 National Schools in the country. With the proposed increasing the total number of National Schools will be 351.
