Pensioners asked to produce living certificates before March 31

A number of government pensioners could lose their monthly pensions as they have not handed over their certificates of living so far to the Pensions Department to establish that they are still living.

Accordingly, Director General of Pensions Jagath Dias in a special circular requested all Divisional Secretaries countrywide that government pensioners have to submit their living certificate on or before March 31 to avoid disqualification to receive pensions.

According to Kurunegala District Divisional Secretary W. E. Jayathilake, there are about 623,071 government pensioners who receive monthly pensions as of December 31, 2018. Rs. 15 billion is allocated by the government for their pensions. He was speaking at a meeting of Government Pensioners of the Kurunegala District on Wednesday at the Bingiriya Youth Training Centre, Kurunegala.

Therefore, the Pensions Department requests government pensioners to submit their certificates to the Grama Niladhari early to avoid deprivation of pensions, said Jayathilake.
