Principals rap football tourney held sans permission

Principals of some schools in the Eastern Province question as to how a Football Association held a football tournament with a few Tamil language schools without the permission of the Eastern Province Education Department.

Principals, who were not invited to the tournament, requested authorities to hold an inquiry as to how such a tournament was held without permission. They said the tournament 'Road to China' was held at the Kinniua public grounds on Sunday and Monday (March 17 and 18) with the participation of 35 schools in the Eastern Province.

They asked for the criteria adopted in selecting schools.

A senior officer in the Eastern Province Education Department said no permission was taken to hold such a tournament.
