Street lamps to discourage jumbo entries

The Mahiyanganaya Pradeshiya Sabha, in its efforts to protect villages from wild elephants, will illuminate areas off Mahiyanganaya, prone to wild elephant attacks, by fixing streets lamps to discourage jumbos from crossing forest borders.

Work in this regard commenced at Medayaya in Andaulpatha off Mahiyanganaya.

Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman Y. M. Karu Weeraratna said the process of identifying locations for street lamps began on March 11 from Medayaya and several other villages nearby such as the areas around the historic reservoir of Sorabora, Dambana, Kukulapola, and Beligalla.
