Daily trains from Matara to Beliatta from April 8

The railway line from Matara to Beliatta will travel daily from April 8. Two maiden trips took place carrying ministers and state officials a month ago.

The train running on this line will stop at Veherahena, Piladuwa, Kekanadura, Babarenda, Wewrukannala, and Beliatta railway stations. Out of them, Veherahena and Piladuwa are sub-stations.

The state-of-the-art railway station at Beliatta is equipped with all facilities.

This is the first railway line to be set up after the British colonial era. The longest tunnel on a railway line is located in this line and it is known as the Singimale tunnel.

The railway line from Matara to Kataragama will be completed in three phases.

The first phase includes the construction of the railway line from Matara to Beliatta and the second phase is from Beliatta to Hambantota.

The third phase is from Hambantota to Kataragama.
