Construction to be speeded up

Health Minister Dr. Rajitha Senaratne has directed that the construction work on stroke units at 10 main state hospitals is to be speeded up, a Health Ministry spokesman said.

He said Rs. 689 million is to be spent on construction of a stroke unit at Karapitiya Teaching Hospital, while Rs. 633 million is to be spent on constructing the stroke unit at Jaffna Teaching Hospital.

Rs. 348 million is to be spent on the stroke unit to be constructed at Polonnaruwa General Hospital, while Rs. 230 million to be spent on constructing the stroke unit at Kurunegala Teaching Hospital, he said.

Rs. 213 million is to be spent on the new stroke unit to be constructed at Ampara General Hospital. Neurologists commended the efforts made by Minister Senaratne to improve treatment for stroke patients, he said.
